Two important advantages of Professional Instruments Company’s ISO spindles are lower moment-of-inertia rotors and high speed capabilities. To take advantage of these properties, high performance motors and drives are nearly always supplied with the spindles. Integral brushless-DC motors enable high performance operation in a wide range of applications.
The motor rotors are attached directly to the air bearing shaft, eliminating the error motions induced by couplings. Wire wound resolvers or glass disk encoders are used to provide position feedback for the high output servo amplifiers. Provisions at each end of the spindle allow for dynamic two-plane balancing. Water-cooling jackets surround the motor and air bearing housings. Shown here are four of our motorized ISO spindles.
